  • Amazon’s updated product title requirements will take effect on January 21, 2025

In an effort to standardize listings, Amazon is updating its product title policy. Over time, product titles have become longer and sometimes contain redundant words or characters, which can decrease customer confidence. These changes aim to make titles clearer, more concise, and consistent across the platform.

Here are the key updates that will take effect on January 21, 2025:

  • Character Limit: For most product categories, titles must not exceed 200 characters, including spaces.
  • Special Characters: Certain special characters, including !, $, ?, _, {, }, ^, ¬, and ¦, will no longer be allowed, unless they are part of the brand name.
  • Repetition of Words: Titles may not contain the same word more than twice, with exceptions for prepositions, articles, and conjunctions.

If any of your product titles currently do not comply with these new requirements, it’s advisable to update them before the deadline.

Starting on January 21, all product title changes will be subject to the updated policy. You’ll be able to view and fix non-compliant titles in the Manage all inventory section.

For brand owners, Amazon will provide override suggestions for non-compliant titles in the Review listing updates section. Brand owners will have 14 days to act on these suggestions before Amazon updates the titles to comply. This process will be rolled out gradually.

During this transition, your listings will remain active, and you will still be able to make changes to your product titles as long as they comply with the new policy.
